Recycling in Detroit & Curbside Basics

Detroit’s Curbside Recycling Program

To demonstrate the significant power of recycling to create jobs, cut costs for the City, reduce air pollution, and to make incineration financially untenable ZWD is working to accelerate the rate at which Detroit is scaling up it’s recycling.  www.detroitrecycles.org

CURBSIDE RECYCLING PROGRAM BASICS

  • Citywide curbside recycling: Opt-in program; Bi-weekly recycling collection
  • Contact Zero Waste Detroit: 313-986-2990 or Info@zerowastedetroit.org to schedule a recycling workshop— participants receive a free recycling cart

  • Place all recyclables in cart – no sorting necessary.
  • Empty, rinse, and make sure all items are free of food and dirt
  • Lids, tops, and labels do not need to be removed

DO NOT put in:

  • plastic bags
  • food
  • liquid waste
  • yard waste
  • styrofoam
  • paper milk and juice boxes
  • light bulbs
  • batteries
  • fabrics
  • paint cans
  • medical waste
